Cres is an island characterized by untouched nature, a protected animal species – a griffon vulture, the phenomenon of Vransko jezero, a wealth of historical and cultural attractions and the fact that the island is visited by dolphins. Cres is located in the northern part of the Kvarner Bay. It is connected to the Lošinj by a mobile bridge. The indented coast of the island has made this island specific because the northern and eastern parts are very steep, in the type of fjords, rough rocks, and in the southern and western parts you can find an enviable number of bays and pebbly beaches, which are paradise for visitors who enjoy privacy. Another indicator of sharp contrast on Cres is vegetation. In the northern, submediterranean part of Cres, there are high and dense forests of oak, chestnut, elm and hornbeam oak, and in the southern and middle parts of the Mediterranean there are many pastures and thick macchia. Particularly interesting in the animal world is that Cres is one of the last two habitats of griffon vultures. On Cres you can find the unusual natural appearance of a freshwater lake on an island surrounded by salt water. Lake Vransko, is a lake whose bottom is 74 meters below the sea level. The long history of this island is reflected in the rich cultural and historical heritage of a number of forts from the time of the Liburnian tribes, remains of ancient cities, early Catholic churches, monasteries and remains of cities from the Venetian Republic to the monuments of today.
